Dust Collector Controls
Dust collector controls for a pulse jet, shaker or reverse air medium pressure is one of the most important items to a successful running, bag or cartridge design, filter unit.
Pulse Jet and Reverse Air
The 110 volt timer board when working properly will activate a row of solenoids mounted on the dust collector. The solenoid is basically a magnet and plunger. The center of the solenoid moves when power is applied from the timer board.
When this occurs it relieves pressure from one side of the diaphragm valve and that allows compressed air to travel from the air storage tank to the blow pipe and down the filer bag or cartridge for back flushing.
If any part of this circuit is not working properly the bags or cartridges will not be cleaned properly, resulting in shortened filter life.
Shaker
The shaker style typically has a timer board also. The timer is adjustable and typically once the fan is shut off or the damper is closed, this will allow the air flow in the filter to come to “0″ air speed condition.
The shaker is then activated and the shaking action releases the dust off the bags. The shaker timer board must work properly to activate the motor which shakes the bags.
Solution
Typically, the timer board is mounted outside, on the dust collector. Moisture and dust has gotten into the enclosure and has burned out the timer board. Wiring to the solenoids may have come loose or shorted out.
The 1/4″ tubing from the solenoids to the diaphragm valves may be broke, cracked or missing resulting in the diaphragm valve not firing properly. The shaker control circuit, which is simpler than the pulse-jet, can still cause filter bag failure to occur if the timer board isn’t working properly. The shaker motor or linkages are not working.
A careful examination of the cleaning controls is very important to maximize the filter bag life. Check the functioning of all the components to make sure the circuit is working properly.
